This Privacy Policy describes how NotePin ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information when you use our browser extension.
1. Data Collection
NotePin does not collect any personal data.
When you create a note, it is saved locally in your browser using
chrome.storage.sync. This data is synced only across your
own signed-in browser instances via your browser's built-in sync mechanism.
We have no access to this data.
- We do not send your notes to any external server.
- We do not track your browsing history.
- We do not collect analytics or usage data from within the NotePin extension.
- Selected text you save through the context menu is processed locally inside the extension.
2. Data Storage
NotePin uses chrome.storage.sync to store your notes. This means:
- Notes are stored locally in your browser profile
- If sync is enabled in your browser profile, notes sync across your signed-in devices
- Data is subject to browser sync storage quotas (~100 KB total)
- Privacy settings can strip query strings and hash fragments from newly saved note URLs
- Only valid http(s) note URLs are kept; unsupported schemes are ignored
- You can export or delete all your data at any time from the fullscreen view
3. Permissions
NotePin requests the following browser permissions:
- storage — To save and sync your notes across devices, and to keep device-local preferences such as popup size and the usage counters behind the one-time rating prompt
- activeTab — To read the current tab's URL for domain-based note filtering and badge counts
- contextMenus — To provide the right-click "Save to NotePin" menu item
- scripting — To register or remove the optional in-page sticky note script when you turn that feature on or off
NotePin also declares optional website access (http://*/* and
https://*/*). This is not requested at install time. Your browser asks for it only
if you enable in-page sticky notes, so that matching notes can be drawn on the pages you visit.
Turning the feature off removes the script again, and you can revoke the access at any time from
your browser's extension settings.
4. Third-Party Services
The extension uses bundled open-source assets including jQuery 4.0.0 and Lucide icon files. Shared UI styles and modal behavior are implemented locally inside the extension. No external CDNs or third-party tracking scripts are loaded.
Two optional links do open a third-party page, and only when you choose to follow them. Uninstalling NotePin opens a Google Forms feedback page, and the in-app rating prompt links to the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons listing. Your notes are never attached to these pages — nothing is sent unless you type it into the form yourself, and those pages are governed by their own providers' privacy policies.
5. Website
The NotePin website is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. It does not use analytics, advertising tags, or other third-party tracking scripts. It also does not read or transmit your NotePin notes.
6. Your Rights
Since NotePin does not collect or store personal data on external servers, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete. If you have any questions, you may contact us using the information below.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
